Oil Pulling - dump those toxics | gifvrije vrijdag Op het moment dat ik dit schrijf zit ik met mijn mond vol, een mond vol met olie wel te verstaan. Zo begin ik sinds een week of twee ’s morgens mijn dag. Dit wordt Oil pulling of in het Nederlands ook wel olie trekken genoemd. Oil pulling is een Ayurvedische techniek om je lichaam te ontgiften en is heel eenvoudig toe te passen en ook nog eens lekker goedkoop.

 

Vorige week beschreef ik al 10 eenvoudige en effectieve manieren om je lichaam te ontgiften en oil pulling had daar zeker ook bij gekund, maar omdat deze methode toch iets meer uitleg behoeft en ik er zelf nog maar kort geleden mee begonnen ben, heb ik besloten dit apart te behandelen. Oil pulling is ook een methode die in het begin nogal wat weerstand kan oproepen. Het idee van een hap olie in je mond, is nou niet een heel aantrekkelijke…

Wat is oil pulling

Oil pulling is inderdaad zo eenvoudig als dat: je mond spoelen met een lepel ongeraffineerde plantaardige olie! Traditioneel werd daar sesamolie voor gebruikt, maar tegenwoordig wordt vaak extra virgin kokosolie daarvoor aangeraden, vanwege de antibacteriële werking. Het idee is misschien een beetje afstotend, en dat is wellicht ook de reden dat ik er nooit eerder mee begonnen ben, maar nu ik het eenmaal een paar keer gedaan heb, valt het me eigenlijk reuze mee! Daarna voelt het echt heel schoon in mijn mond.

Je mondholte bevat miljarden bacteriën, virussen, schimmels en andere parasieten met hun bijhorende afvalstoffen die veelal toxisch zijn. En net als in de rest van het spijsverteringsstelsel moet er een balans zijn tussen de goede en slechte micro organismen en vaak is die balans verstoord en hebben zich afvalstoffen opgehoopt.

Met oil pulling spoel je de olie met een soort trekkende en duwende beweging tussen je tanden door, door je hele mondholte.
Door deze beweging worden de lymfeklieren en de stofwisseling gestimuleerd, waardoor afvalstoffen sneller afgevoerd kunnen worden. De rond bewegende olie helpt tandplak verwijderen, tandsteen los te weken en bacteriën worden door de olie aangetrokken en met het uitspugen van de olie afgevoerd.

Een uitstekend middel dus om je mond fris en gezond te houden en het schijnt dat je er ook nog wittere tanden door krijgt.

 

De relatie tussen de mondholte en de rest van het lichaam

Oil pulling wordt meestal in eerste instantie gebruikt om problemen in de mondholte, zoals ontstoken tandvlees, slechte adem, tandsteen, gevoelige tanden en dergelijke op lossen. Het is echter gebleken dat de algehele gezondheid erbij gebaat is!

Bruce Fife, de man die in 1992 oil pulling in de Westerse wereld introduceerde zegt dat de gezondheid van de mond is verbonden met de gezondheid van je hele lichaam. Als er continue een teveel aan de zogenaamde bad buggies in de mond aanwezig zijn moet het lijf voortdurend er tegen vechten. Als het immuunsysteem overbelast raakt door stress, een ongezond dieet, gifstoffen uit de omgeving en dergelijk, kunnen de ziektenverwekkers zich door het lichaam gaan verspreiden en daar allerlei infecties, chronische ontstekingen en andere problemen veroorzaken.

Verschillende gezondheids voordelen van oil pulling die mensen hebben ervaren zijn o.a.:

  • Wittere tanden
  • Gezonder, roze tandvlees
  • Minder last van slechte adem
  • Meer energie
  • Helderder van geest
  • Minder hoofdpijnen
  • Gezondere Luchtwegen
  • Beter slapen
  • Minder huidproblemen als acné en dergelijke en een strakkere huid, minder cellulitis etc.
  • Regelmatigere menstruatiecyclus
  • Minder last van PMS
  • Minder last van allergieën en asthma

 

Oil pulling in de praktijk

Het best doe je oil pulling ’s morgens als je uit bed komt, voordat je ook maar iets gegeten of gedronken hebt en ook voor het tanden poetsen. Neem een goede kwaliteit plantaardige olie, die niet bewerkt is en bijvoorkeur biologisch. Meestal wordt sesamolie, zonnebloemolie of kokosolie gebruikt. Die eerste heeft misschien een wat penetrante smaak. Kokosolie wordt vaak gekozen vanwege de antibacteriële werking en om de smaak. Omdat kokosolie vast is bij kamertemperatuur, kun je deze beter eerst laten smelten; geloof me een hap gestolde kokosolie is niet fijn in je mond!

Eventueel kun je enkele druppels etherische olie er in doen voor de smaak en de extra antibacteriële werking van bijvoorbeeld oregano olie. Ook kun je er een beetje van de oliemix bij doen.

In principe is 1x per dag voldoende, maar als je hevige infecties of orale problemen hebt kun je het voor iedere maaltijd doen.

 

Oil Pulling in stappen

  1. Neem 1 eetlepel olie in je mond, maar als je net begint kun je beter beginnen met 1 theelepel en dit langzaam opbouwen naar 1 eetlepel. Kinderen kun je uiteraard ook beter theelepels geven in plaats van een eetlepel.
  2. Spoel 20 minuten lang de olie rustig door je mond met een soort duwende en trekkende beweging, zodat de olie goed overal in de mond en tussen de tanden kan komen. Daar komt ook de naam ‘oil pulling’ of ‘olie trekken’ van. Volgens Dr. Bruce Fife is het belangrijk deze 20 minuten aan te houden, niet korter, maar ook niet langer. Zoveel tijd heeft het namelijk nodig om tandsteen los te weken, maar is nog niet lang genoeg voor het lichaam om de gifstoffen en bacteriën weer terug op te nemen. Ook hier geldt dat als je net begint je beter korter kunt beginnen en iedere dag wat langer tot je op de 20 minuten per keer zit.
    Slik de olie niet door, als je de neiging om te slikken niet kunt onderdrukken, spuug je het uit en begin opnieuw, je wilt namelijk niet al die bacteriën in je lijf, maar juist er uit!
  3. Spuug de olie uit in een afvalbak, niet in de wasbak of gootsteen! Kokosolie kan je afvoer verstoppen en bovendien wil je al die bacteriën en troep liever niet daar. Als de olie nog geel is, heb je waarschijnlijk te kort gespoeld, het moet (romig) wit zijn.
  4. Spoel nu je mond twee keer met water. Lauw water werkt het best en soms wordt ook aangeraden om er een beetje (keltisch) zeezout in te doen. Ook hier geldt weer: niet doorslikken!
  5. Poets je tanden goed na. Ik gebruik daarvoor het liefst de oliemix.

  1. Ik heb het, jaren geleden, ook een tijdje gedaan. Altijd lastig om te beoordelen of het echt werkte. Maar ik geloof er wel in. Had dit advies gekregen van behandelend alternatieve arts. Ik ben ermee gestopt nadat ik 2x een niesbui kreeg. Dat geeft troep kan ik je verzekeren! Nu ik dit lees ben ik er wel over aan het denken om het nog eens te doen.

    • Ai, een niesbui tijdens het pullen lijkt me heel vervelend! Ik moest gister vreselijk hoesten, terwijl ik met die olie in mijn mond achter de computer zat, gauw naar de keuken gerend om iets te pakken waar ik het even in kon uitspugen, was net optijd, maar moet er niet aan denken als dat niet het geval was geweest ha ha….:-)

Ik doe OP (OilPulling) nu pas 4 dagen, gebruik kokosolie, en ik moet zeggen, ik merk wel nu al verschil en ben er positief over, ook al voel ik me vandaag helemaal niet zo lekker; ik houd mezelf voor dat dit van het detoxproces komt. Ik drink me suf de laatste dagen, gewoon omdat ik dorst heb, mijn tong is veel mooier van kleur, veel scherper van geest (merk ik aan het spelen van Ruzzle), veel minder snoeplust, en tot vanmorgen meer energie, en mijn kaakholten zijn opeens leeg! Ik OP ’s morgens vroeg, vanmorgen moest ik halverwege alles uitspugen omdat ik opeens een vloed van slijm uit mijn keelholte erbij trok en mijn mond wel erg vol werd, bahbah. Een nieuwe hap olie genomen om de rest van de 20 minuten af te maken, dit schijnt dus helemaal geen probleem te zijn, om halverwege even te verversen. Mijn kinderen (17 , 21en 22) doen het ook, en zijn heel enthousiast over de schone mond, heldere tandvlees, loskomende slijmen, en ook zij hebben meer dorst de afgelopen dagen. We gebruiken het nu ook op brood ipv margarine, de kokossmaak gaat goed samen met chocopasta 🙂 en de biologische kokosolie zonder smaak gebruiken we daar waar we geen kokossmaak aan willen toevoegen.

    • Ik doe het pm de dag en ben nu ineens verkouden geworden….ik poets ook mijn tanden met kokosolie. Geeft een fris en schoon gevoel. Ik gebruik kokosolie overal voor, huid, haar, maar ook om te bakken. Topproduct.

      • Ja, kokosolie rules 🙂 Die verkoudheid kan natuurlijk ook toeval zijn. Het is wel een beetje de tijd dat mensen verkouden worden namelijk 😉

  3. Heel interessant Shirley!! Ik was ook van plan om dit op te pakken met gebruik van kokosolie. Bij RTL Boulevard (notabene) vernam ik van het extra effect van witte tanden.

    Je schrijft dat oil-pulling het beste ’s morgens gedaan kan worden, waarom is dat? Qua planning is ’s avonds voor mij namelijk makkelijker, maar ik ben dus even benieuwd naar het voordeel van ’s ochtends.

      • Hoi, een reactie op de vraag of er ’s morgens of ’s avonds gepulled moet worden. Het advies hier is ’s morgens, dat is natuurlijk prima, maar het maakt ook weer niet zo heel veel uit hoor. Voor ’s avonds is er ook wat te zeggen. Dat ga je met een super schone mond slapen en is het ’s morgens ook nog frisser. En de lever ontgift inderdaad ’s nachts, maar bij het oilpullen komen er ook stoffen en troep los in de bloedbaan, en die kan de lever dan ’s nachts mooi opruimen. Het zogenaamde detox effect. De hele dag presteren op je werk met een detox ervaring is niet prettig. Natuurlijk verdwijnt dit effect na een aantal dagen, maximaal.

        Ik meng het met salie olie, etherisch of pepermunt, maar ga ook neemolie proberen, dat schijnt tandsteen ook aan te pakken, maar dat moet ik nog zien.

        • Rowie, dank je voor je reactie en je input en met die etherische olie ga ik ook eens proberen! Neemolie heb ik ook in huis, lijkt me overigens wel heel vies ha ha!

  5. Interessant artikel!! Ik wil t ook graag gaan doen nu zit ik met een probleempje. Ik heb medicatie die ik een halfuur voor het ontbijt moet innemen met wat water. Om voor die pil te spoelen zie ik niet zitten dan duurt het erg lang voor ik kan eten. Zou het dan ook na de pil kunnen of is dit niet slim omdat je dan niet nuchter ben??

    • Ai, dat is een lastige vraag… Ik denk dat het een beetje afhangt van wat voor medicatie dat is ook. Ik zelf ontbijt tegenwoordig pas laat. Begin ’s morgens met die olie, daarna water met citroensap op kvas en pas tegen 10 à 11 uur ontbijt ik echt en dan ook meteen goed. Daarmee red ik het dan tot een uur of 3 à 4 en vaak zelfs lunch ik helemaal niet, hooguit een beker kefir of kopje bouillon oid. Dus misschien is het ook een kwestie van wennen. Ik heb ook wel eens gelezen dat je beter pas kunt ontbijten rond een uur of 10, omdat dan pas je systeem klaar is met het detox-proces. Ik durf je niet te zeggen of je voor of na zo’n pil moet oil pullen, ik weet alleen dat het op een lege maag het beste werkt en liefst ’s morgens….

      • Deze bijzondere papieren zijn fantastisch, en mijn echtgenote en ik genieten van elk van de optredens die je hierin hebt geplaatst. Ik weet zeker dat je een heel nuttige plek gaat maken. Ik was extra tevreden. Goed presteren!

  6. Goedenavond.
    Ik ben afgelopen zondag begonnen met oilpulling en zag gelijk verschil aan mijn tanden. Maar daar neem ik het niet voor. Ik heb erg last van mijn darmen, eet gluten, koemelk en suiker vrij. Vanaf woensdag heb ik griepverschijnselen. Vooral mijn keel is erg pijnlijk en ik onwaarschijnlijk moe.
    Het kan bijna niet anders als dat het te maken heeft met de oilpulling. Heeft iemand hier ervaring mee?
    Overigens spoel ik met sesamolie van de natuurwinkel.

    • Of je hebt gewoon een griepje onder de leden, dat kan natuurlijk ook… Maar inderdaad kan het ook detox zijn, dat kan erg op grieperig lijken, het is soms moeilijk om vast te stellen wat het precies is.

    • Ik dacht dat ik hier al op gereageerd had, maar ik zie mijn reactie niet terug. Nu ja, het kan toeval zijn natuurlijk dat je grieperig wordt nu, maar het kan heel goed inderdaad ook detox verschijnselen zijn. Ik heb dat persoonlijk niet ervaren, maar ik ben dan ook al bijna een jaar met GAPS bezig dat ook een grote detox is.

      • Hoi, ik lees uw reacties maar ik kan er niet goed uithalen welke kokosolie u gebruikt. Kunt u mij hieraan helpen want ik wil ook graag het OP gaan proberen.

      • Ik kwam onlangs je blog tegen en heb mee gelezen. Ik dacht dat ik mijn eerste opmerking zou achterlaten. Ik weet niet wat ik moet zeggen, behalve dat ik met veel plezier heb gelezen.

  7. Kan je dit ook rustig doen met vullingen in je mond? Heeft iemand hier ervaring mee? Ik lees soms wel wat negatieve singen hierover. (Losgaan van vullingen, het oplossen van fe zware metalen in de vulling)

    • Jazeker Monique. Sowieso denk ik dat er maar weinig volwassenen zijn die nog helemaal geen vullingen hebben. Mijn mond zit er vol mee in elk geval. Geen probleem!

      • Fijn dank je ik heb het al een paar keer gedaan, maar ik las ineens berichten over dat het niet kon met amalgaan vullingen!

        • Bedankt voor het delen van de post .. ouders zijn ’s werelds beste persoon in elk individueel leven .. ze hebben behoefte of moeten erin slagen om in de behoeften van het gezin te voorzien.

  10. Verhelderend artikel. Ik heb sinds mijn zwangerschap volgens mij een gaatje (bijna jaar geleden) en momenteel last van vieze smaak in de mond, vies ruiken uit de mond, wat wondjes in de mond en mijn tanden zien er vies uit. Ik wil graag oil pulling doen, maar ik geen nog borstvoeding. Kan dit kwaad? Spuug ik alle afvalstoffen uit of gaat dient via mijn lijf en geef ik ze dan via borstvoeding door aan mijn kind? Ik ben benieuwd! (Wil dit graag even proberen voor naar de tandarts te gaan)

    • Ja, je kunt prima oil pulling doen tijdens borstvoeding of zwangerschap. Het is een milde detox vorm en je spuugt inderdaad gifstoffen uit i.p.v. dat deze door het bloed verwerkt en afgevoerd moeten worden. Lekker blijven voeden en gaan oil pullen 🙂

  11. ik doe ook sinds enkele weken oilpulling maar ben nog geen kilo afgevallen….maar daar deed ik het niet voor, wel voor mijn tandvlees, ben al een jaar bij een mondhygieniste en mijn tandvlees is stabiel, moest vorige week weer terug , na 6 maanden, tandvlees was rustig en daar waren ze wel verbaasd over. ik heb niks gezegd over oilpulling, daar wordt lacherig over gedaan, maar ik weet wel beter 🙂
    bijkomende factor van oilpulling is dat ik sinds 4 jaar geen menstruatie meer heb gehad, menopauze dus, ik ben 55, en opeens weer pijn in mijn borsten kreeg en na een paar dagen weer ongestled werd, 5 dagen, bloed was helder , gewoon als 4 jaar geleden. naar huisarts gegaan, onderzoek gedaan, alles was prima, moet alleen nog voor een echo van de baarmoeder gaan volgende week.
    in boek van bruce fife staat inderdaad dat de hormonen ook gaan werken……ik ga ervanuit dat ik niks aan mijn baarmoeder heb en dat dit door de ontgifting komt…….maar schrok er wel van, na 4 jaar……?
    iemand zulke ervaring gehad?

    • Tjee, na vier jaar nog eens… Ik ben zelf nog niet in de overgang en heb niets van dien aard gemerkt. Ben benieuwd of er anderen zijn die iets vergelijkbaars hebben ervaren!

      • was vergeten het vervolg te melden…..moest van huisarts naar ziekenhuis, na 4 jaar weer menstruatie vond ze erg vreemd…… moest een echo laten maken….zit je daar tussen de zwangeren, die vragen je dan of je oma wordt :):):) ik ben 55. ik heb gezegd ik kwam ook voor een echo, toen was er wel verwarring ;):):):)
        maar het geval was dat ik wel 4 vleesbomen had….het is zo dat als je in de menopauze komt en je hormoonproduktie neemt af…als je dan vleesbomen hebt, verschrompelen die. hoe kan het dan dat ik na 4 jaar vleesbomen heb???? hadden ze geen antwoord op. ik heb er verder geen last van maar mocht er nog een menstruatie komen moet ik weer terug……ik denk dat het wel wat met die oilpulling te maken had 🙂

      • Het is echt een goed onderzochte inhoud en uitstekende bewoordingen. Ik raakte zo betrokken bij dit materiaal dat ik niet kon wachten met lezen. Ik ben onder de indruk van je werk en vaardigheid. Bedankt.

  12. Ik denk erover om oil pulling uit te proberen. Ik vraag mij echter af of het ook effect zou hebben wanneer je dit af en toe doet, bijvoorbeeld 2 keer per week of een week per maand achtereen. En kunnen in dat geval iedere keer weer eventuele ontgiftigingsverschijnselen opspelen of is dat slechts eenmalig?

    Ik hoor graag of iemand hier ervaring mee heeft.

      ik doe oilpulling voor diverse redenen, zie elders op deze pagina o.a. voor mijn tandvlees , dat is nu prima in orde, de mondhygieniste denkt dat dat door haar komt 🙂 ik hoef voorlopig niet terug.

      ik doe het elke dag, ’s morgens als eerste. het is wennen soms vind ik het niet prettig in mijn mond.
      ik zet wel door en doe het elke dag.
      ik heb ook artritis en opeens , na enkele dagen spoelen viel me op dat ik geen pijn meer had en mijn gewrichten wel erg soepel waren geworden, heerlijk!!!!!
      nu heb ik mijn badkamer gerenoveerd en alles stond op zijn kop in huis en heb ik 4 weken niet gespoeld en opeens was de pijn terug………..sinds 1 week spoel ik weer en weg is de pijn……
      ontgifting heb ik weinig van gemerkt en ik dacht eerst dat het niet hielp. maar als je het specifiek doet zoals mij, voor de artritis en tandvlees, dan moet je wel elke dag spoelen.

      het merendeel van de mensen om me heen denkt dat het tussen mijn oren zit 🙂 maar ik weet wel beter.

    • Ik denk wel dat het zinvol is, alle beetjes helpen als het om detoxen gaat. Ik weet niet of je iedere keer ontgiftingsverschijnselen zult krijgen. Dat ligt ook aan de mate van toxines in je lichaam en wat je allemaal daarnaast doet aan ontgiften en hoeveel je ook weer binnenkrijgt. Kwestie van uitproberen dus…!

  13. Ik ben pas 8 dagen geleden gestart.Kan er dus nog niet zoveel over zeggen,alleen dat er verschrikkelijk veel van moet niezen.
    Geen prettige ervaring door de smeerboel.
    Ga toch door daar ik veelal positieve ervaringen lees.

    • Ai, dat lijkt me een lastig probleem! Ik moet wel eens hoesten en kan het dan ook niet binnenhouden vaak…

      Ik heb opgezocht of er iets over bekend is en ik vond dit:

      (g) Sensation/irritation may cause sneezing or coughing while doing Oil Pulling Therapy. Do Oil Pulling Therapy slowly in a relaxed state to avoid such an irritation. StOil Pulling Therapy pulling and relax as irritation or sensation to sneeze is felt. It will subside. You can sneeze or cough while holding oil in a mouth. If you have to sneeze or cough through mouth do it in the sink or some such place to avoid oil driblets spray all over or cover mouth with tissue paper.

    • het was een geweldige kans om dit soort sites te bezoeken en ik ben blij dat te weten. heel erg bedankt dat je ons deze kans hebt gegeven ..

  14. Hoi Iris,

    ik heb er ook veel baat bij. Een bekende natuurarts Andreas Moritz zegt echter dat je het beter 3 tot 4 minuten in plaats van 20 minuten kunt doen en eventueel 3 x kunt herhalen. Vervolgens kun je het beste met zout water(zeezout) of baking soda je mond spoelen. hij geeft aan dat wanneer je het 20 minuten doet, de gifstoffen gedurende die tijd opnieuw kunnen worden opgenomen door het lichaam. misschien kun je eens expirimenteren wat effectiever lijkt. veel succes! nuttige website heb je!

    • Hi Lucas,
      Dank voor je reactie. Ik zal me eens verdiepen in die kortere tijd. Ik weet wel dat 20 minuten de max. is, inderdaad om de reden die je ook aangeeft. Volgens Bruce Fife is korter echter weer niet zinvol als het gaat om tandsteen los te weken en heb je die tijd ook echt nodig… Dus wie moeten we nu geloven? Naspoelen met water en zeezout noem ik in het artikel inderdaad ook. Dat werkt gewoon iets beter om de olie goed uit je mond te krijgen.

    doe sinds een hele poos aan oilpulling, heb erbest wel baat bij, vooral mijn tandvlees is steviger geworden, voorheen was dat slap en veel ontstekingen…..maar ook de reumatische pijn in mijn vingers is weg……..stop ik ermee, dan komt de pijn weer terug. dit heb ik een paar keer uitgetest, kan dus geen toeval zijn!!!!

    wat ik nergens lees is het volgende: als je de olie uitspuugt in de gootsteen laat dan heet water meelopen ander krijg je afvoerproblemen vanwege de vettigheid……

      Jouw opmerking staat er overigens wel degelijk in, zeker als je kokosolie gebruikt moet je daar voorzichtig mee zijn inderdaad!

  16. Oliepulling werkt wel bij mij,heb iderdaad baat bij.spoel al bijna twee jaar met olijfolie ,maar de kaaklijn vooral de kaakholte worden groter.wat moet ik doen om te verkomen dat ze nog groter worden,wil wel blijven olie trekken.graag serieus reactie van een ervaring persoon
