Ken je dat, dat wanneer je juist met iets bezig bent, er uit allerlei hoeken dingen op je pad komen die daarmee te maken hebben? Geen toeval, volgens mij, maar synchroniciteit. Mijn leven zit hier altijd vol mee en het blijft een interessant fenomeen. De laatste tijd is het ook weer flink raak.
Lang heb ik me voornamelijk gericht op de invloed van voeding op onze gezondheid. Die invloed is immens, maar er is meer.
De Vader en de Moeder van Ziekten
De filosoof Hippocrates (circa 430 – 370 v. Chr.) zei ooit:
“Wat dan ook de vader van een ziekte is, de moeder is altijd een verkeerde voeding.”
En dat is waar ik de laatste tijd erg mee bezig ben, met de vader van ziekten dus.
Als je ooit mijn stappenplan naar Echt Eten hebt gelezen, dan weet je dat de Voedzame Keuken ook echt niet alleen gaat over dat wat je in je mond stopt. Hoewel het stappenplan een gids is om je te helpen de overgang te maken naar gezondere voeding, bespreek ik daar bijvoorbeeld ook over het belang van te letten op dat wat je op je huid smeert. En dat je vooral ook niet te veel in de stress moet schieten over jouw voeding, want dat zou enkel averechts werken.
Wat, Wanneer, Hoe en Waarom Eet Je?
Wat heeft het bijvoorbeeld voor zin als je super gezond eet, maar je niks opneemt, omdat je te gestrest bent? Niet alleen wat en hoeveel je eet is van belang, ook hoe je eet en wanneer, maar ook: waarom eet je?
(H)erken je Honger
En over dat laatste gaat het boek (H)erken je Honger van Marie-José Torenvliet. Dat net bij mij terecht kwam, toen ik me aan het verdiepen was in Mindful Eating. Toeval bestaat niet!
15 Soorten Honger
In het boek (H)erken je Honger schrijft diëtiste Marie-José over wat ons ertoe brengt om te begínnen met eten: honger. Ze ontdekte 15 soorten honger, eigenlijk 15 redenen om naar eten te grijpen.
Want naast echte, lichamelijke honger, kennen velen ook wel het fenomeen ‘emotie eten’ wel, of eten uit verveling, maar wist je ook dat sommigen geen honger voelen en daarom gauw te vaak of te veel eten? Of wel eens gehoord van luchthonger of afterparty-honger? Je zintuigen, je emoties en psyche, de omgeving, vaste gewoontes, hormonen, allemaal beïnvloeden ze je eetgedrag en kunnen ze je soms flink in de war brengen.
De Sleutel naar een Gezond Gewicht
Het leren (h)erkennen van het hongergevoel is volgens Marie-José de sleutel naar een gezond gewicht.
Na een inleidend hoofdstuk over het nut van echte (lichamelijke) honger beschrijft ze vervolgens iedere hongersoort in een apart hoofdstuk.
Je krijgt tips hoe de verschillende soorten honger te herkennen en hoe je daar het beste mee om kunt gaan.
Zo kun je concentratiehonger herkennen aan het feit dat je je focus verliest, afdwaalt en niet goed meer kunt nadenken of lezen. Je grijpt dan al snel naar de snoeppot: iets zoets. Niet zo vreemd als je weet dat deze honger wordt veroorzaakt door een energie gebrek in de hersenen en dat glucose dé brandstof is voor de hersenen. Daarbij zorgt de kauwbeweging voor een grotere toevoer van bloed (lees: zuurstof) naar de hersenen.
Een remedie bij deze honger is regelmatig bewegen, 5 minuten is vaak al voldoende. Zo komt er glycogeen (opgeslagen glucose) vrij. Of kauw op iets hartigs of neem een kauwgommetje.
Bewustwording
Ieder hoofdstuk wordt geïllustreerd met een voorbeeld van een van haar cliënten. Ook vind je aan het eind van ieder hoofdstuk wat meer informatie – Duik dieper in je honger – voor wie meer wilt weten wat met voeding en honger te maken heeft.
Door te beter te gaan luisteren naar je lichaam en de signalen te leren herkennen, word je meer en meer bewust van jouw eetgedrag. Wanneer heb jij de neiging om naar eten te grijpen, is het wel échte honger? Op die manier leer je patronen te doorbreken en kun je intuïtiever eten. Zo eet je niet snel te veel en zul je gemakkelijker een gezond gewicht bereiken.
Het Boek
Het boek is heel toegankelijk in heldere taal geschreven. Wel met een stijlfout die een editor er mijns inziens toch uit had moeten halen: “Meer afwisseling is wenselijk voor de variatie…”. Wie weet komt er een tweede druk en kan dit aangepast worden!
Ergens doet het een beetje schoolboek-achtig aan. Dat komt wellicht door de vormgeving, kleurgebruik en de illustraties. Die vind ik niet om over naar huis te schrijven…
Maar los van deze puntjes, vind ik het boek zeker de moeite waard om te lezen. Het is echt belangrijk je bewust te worden, niet alleen van wat je eet en hoeveel, maar ook wanneer en waarom je iets eet. Be Mindful, be aware!

Op een site als deze vind ik reclame voor tosti-ijzer niet gepast. Een tosti valt niet in de categorie gezond eten. Om over taal gebruik te spreken: waarover ik je graag in andere blogposts meer over gaan vertellen
Een tostie is prima als je bijvoorbeeld hard werkt en even pauzeren moet en/of even doorwarmen & caloriën aanvullen. Tenzij je allergisch/bent voor een of meer van de ingrediënten, maar dat geldt ook voor gezond voer.
Die reclame wordt getoond aan de hand van de bezoeker zijn surfgedrag, zo werkt Google Adsense… En ik ben het met je eens dat een tosti-ijzer (met anti-aanbaklaag waarschijnlijk) hier niet past, maar met een tosti gemaakt van zuurdesembrood bijvoorbeeld hoeft niets mis te zijn.
en wat die taal betreft, heb je gelijk. Het zal de haast zijn geweest. Ik heb geen editor en na het schrijven, lees ik snel ergens overheen.

Lief dat je dat vraagt! Het is een stuk beter dan het was voor ik met GAPS begon. Het een en ander is wel weer teruggekomen toen ik eenmaal van GAPS af was. Waarschijnlijk zit er toch ‘gewoon’ een candida overgroei. Want de symptomen die teruggekomen zijn wijzen daar eigenlijk allemaal wel op:-(
Ook zie ik een connectie die met emoties en stress te maken heeft. Ik ben er dus nog niet vanaf, maar weet wel veel beter hoe en wat nu en kan dus gerichter weer er aan werken!
Heb nooit honger nooit gehad ook als kind vond ik eten al een marteling. Ik eet gezond omdat het nodig is om niet ziek te worden.Verder ben ik wel een zoetekauw en heb nooit moeite met gewicht.
Dan kan het boek voor jou ook interessant zijn, want 1 van de hongersoorten die beschreven wordt is ‘geen honger’. Sommige mensen eten daardoor te veel, anderen weer te weinig. Ik denk dat je het wel kunt trainen, weer honger te voelen, tenzij het om een defect of afwijking gaat natuurlijk.
Ben eigenlijk dankbaar ervoor hoef nooit te lijnen en krijg geen hangend vel.
